Angelina Jolie, originally Angelina
Jolie Voight (born on June 4, 1975 in Los Angeles, California) is an American
actress, director and producer best known for her sex appeal , as in her work
for the cause of humanitarian aid. Jolie is the daughter of actor Jon Voight,
was raised in New York. After her early years, she moved to Los Angeles, where
she was the character of mentally ill patient in Girl, interrupted (1999).
After two years at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in Los Angeles,
she attended Beverly Hills High School. New York University later taught her
drama. She also acted in theatre productions, and was a model for music videos.
It was during Hackers (1995) when Jolie got to know Jonny Lee Miller, a British
actor (married in 1996, divorced in 1999). It wasn't well-loved and so were
several other films. In 1997, however, Jolie received a lot of attention for
her role as the wife of Alabama's segregationist governor the film George
Wallace, and she later received the Golden Globe Award for her performance.
Jolie played the supermodel struggling with addiction to drugs in the HBO film
Gia in 1999. This performance earned her many awards, including a Golden Globe
Award and Screen Actors Guild Award. After her Oscar-winning performance in
Girl, Interrupted, Jolie was in Pushing Tin, a comedy featuring John Cusack,
Billy Bob Thornton and in 2003 she was divorced. She was the girlfriend of an
armed carjacker (Nicolas Cage) in Gone in Sixty Seconds (2000) and later
adopting an accent that resembled a British accent and mastered combat sports
and street fighting for the title roles in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and
Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003). In 2004 she portrayed the
mother of Alexander the Great in Oliver Stone's Alexander and also appeared
alongside Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law in Sky Captain and the World of
Tomorrow, a sci-fi thriller set in 1930s New York City. Both films were box
office disappointments, but Jolie had a smash in Mr. & Mrs. Smith
(2005) which was a film in which she played an assassin posing as an ordinary
housewife. While making the film she was introduced to Brad Pitt, who became
her co-star.
